December 30, 2014

Hey Family!

This week was a really great week out here!  We worked hard and, of course, it was great to see you guys on Christmas.  That was a great blessing to see you and talk with you.  It made me feel like I was right at home just chilling with the family.   I can’t believe the New Year is upon us.  It is kind of scaring me how fast time is going and how the mission just doesn’t last.  I never thought that 2014 would fly by, but it did, and it’s scary to think 2015 is upon us.  I love the mission and what it has taught me, and I am not ready for it to end.    I still have time, and that is alright.  I am going to enjoy the time I have left.

My week went well.   It was pretty much what I reported to you on Christmas Day.  We ate more food than I could have imagined, and that is alright.  I never have eaten so many tamales and everything in my life.  It was by far my favorite Christmas out here in the mission, and I am always going to remember it.  I was happy to see you guys also.  That was a great highlight and my favorite part of the week.

Our investigators are doing well right now.  Claudio is still seeking for the answers and trying to decide whether or not he should get baptized.   He is seeking, and that is a good thing.  We found a new investigator this week named Jorge.  He is married to a member, and we have been teaching him a lot lately because he has no work because of the Holidays.  He has a problem with drinking and with drugs, but he has a sincere desire to change and to become a better person.  He came to church this week, and we went by yesterday and he told us how he wants to go again.  That was super cool.  We have been having really spiritual lessons with him, and it is great to see him progress and become a better person.  He has a baptismal date for Feb 14th, so we are praying super hard that he makes it.  I know he will if he just gives his whole soul to the Lord and looks to him always.

Our less actives are doing well, and Aaron is progressing the most.  I talked to you about him a lot on Christmas, and he came out with us caroling.  He has a great spirit about him right now, and he needs to ride that for the rest of his life.  If he does that he is going to do great things.  We are trying to get all of them to progress and come back to church.  That is our goal all the time with them - to get them to church again.

Other than that life is the same for me.  Sorry this email is kind of short.  I don’t know what to write because I just talked too you a couple of days ago.  We have MLC come up this week and we spend all day planning for it and getting our presentation all set for it.  We are excited to present how the Zone did this month because we killed it this month, and it was great to see that.  Something I remember is that on Friday I had the craziest baptismal interview of my life.   The guy was Navajo, and he thought I was a jerk, so he did want to open up to me.  I don’t know how I made him mad, but he just didn’t want to be there.  I asked him the questions, and when I asked him about Joseph Smith and if he believed in him he told me not really.  I also asked him if he wanted to be baptized, and he responded that’s what the missionaries are telling him he had to do.   I was kind of done with him and his childish responses, so we finished up the interview.  I felt like my companion, Elder Chamberlain, should interview him once more to see if he could pass.  He opened up a lot more with him, and he passed!  So it was a miracle, and I guess people just don’t want me to interview them.  We also had to make a drive down to Socorro, which is 1 hour away, to correct missionaries.  They were making a movie, and a prayer room, and they were just being bums.  We drove down and fixed everything.  But when we left we felt like there was something fake about the situation, so we called President and talked to him about it.  He told us to go back and that he was going to talk with them one by one with us right there.  Man, that guy knows how to do it.  He was super bold, and it was a really humbling experience.  He talked to us on the way home and told us how great we did and how much he loves us.  It was a crazy night, but I sure do love President Miller.

That is my week for you.  It sounds like everything is good at home, and I miss you guys tons!  I hope you have a great week, and you guys have some fun for me this New Years!  I can’t believe 2015 is upon us.   I miss you guys and pray about you guys daily.  I realized that I need a calendar.  If you could find me a Packers calendar on the internet and just send it directly to our house that would be great!  I want to have some Packers photos to look at every day!  If you could do that, and also put some more quotes together from all different people you find, that would be great!  Sorry to ask for things.  I hate doing that but that would be great if you could do that!  I sure do love you guys and I miss you tons!  Have a great week!

Love,

-Elder Smith
