January 13, 2015

Hey Family!

It sounds like everyone is at one piece at home, and it sounds like Grandpa’s funeral went well this week.  I am doing really well, and I am happy with the success we have been having lately.  It has been none of our work but the work of the Lord.   He has been blessing us a lot lately with miracles and just everything.  We are working hard right now, and I love Elder Chamberlain.   He is an awesome elder, and it’s been great to get to know him.  Just a heads up that next week is transfers on Tuesday.   We would be having P-day on a Monday, but since it’s Martin Luther King Jr day you are going to be hearing from me Wednesday.   I am hoping I will be staying out here in ABQ, but I am scared that I might be on my way out and on to a new area.  You will be hearing from me Wednesday next week either from The South Valley or somewhere else in this mission.

We had a really good week, and life is good out here.  Our investigators are doing really good right now, and it is great to see the progression of them right now.  Claudio is on fire to say the least.  I love that man to death, and he is such a sick dude.   He is full force into his date right now, and he is planning on being baptized February 7th.   We are excited for him to make the step.  After that he will have a life full of blessings.   He told us this week that after his baptism he wants to baptize his 8 year old son, so that was cool to see that.   He also handed his coffee to us and told us that he will not be drinking this again.   We threw it away at our house, and we were happy about his desire to just let it go and never go back.   He also came to church for the second week in a row, and that was super awesome to see.   He is just a fireball, and he is going to do it!  We are super stoked for him, and I love him to death.

Gustavo and Jamie are progressing slowly but doing it.  They have a date for January 31st, and they are working toward it.  But the problem that we are having is that they don’t come to church.  We texted Gustavo Sunday morning, and he told us he would be there.  But when the time came he didn’t come, and that was frustrating.  We went by yesterday and shared a quick message.  We are going back on Wednesday, and we are hoping something comes from it.   They just got to come to church, and they will be good.  But it has been a real struggle for them.

We have finally reconnected with Jamyll after a long period of not teaching him.  We are going by tonight to teach him, so we are excited.   Hopefully we can set a date with him, and he will progress once again.   He comes to church every week but doesn’t have a date. Hopefully tonight we will have a good lesson with him.  We have a priest coming out with us to see him, so that is dope.

Magda’s and Osvaldo’s date dropped.  That was sad and frustrating.   I thought they were going to do it, but it was a bigger marriage situation than we thought.  I think Osvaldo is illegal, so that makes things complicated.  We are working with that.  We are debating whether to drop them because they have been investigating for longer than we know, and they just haven’t done anything to really progress.  It is frustrating, but it’s part of the work.  Hopefully we get them to progress.

We had a miracle this week with finding.   I think it was on Thursday.  We had just finished some reports we had to do for the Zone, and we needed to go finding.   Both of us kind of didn’t want to do that, but we knew it was the devil just trying to stop the work from progressing.  We went to a trailer park and felt like we should start knocking.   Every door we were knocking wasn’t bringing forth anything, but we kept on knocking and trying to find some success.   We knew that we were short on time, so we decided to knock one last trailer.   We knocked, and they let us in for a short minute.  We shared a brief part of the restoration, set up a return time, and then left.   It was super cool because the Lord knew we would find someone, but Satan didn’t want it to happen.  It was a miracle and super cool to see that happen.  We are going back today, and we are excited.

The less active work has slowed down lately.   We haven’t seen too much success with them lately, and that is sad to see.  We haven’t been able to get in with any of them, and that is hard.   A lot of them don’t answer or just don’t respond to our calls or messages.   Aaron though is doing great, and he is hanging in there.  It is cool to see his continued desire to change, and we are working with him.   The Neri’s are slowly progressing, and that is good to see.   The problem we are running into is that he loves his beer, and he has been drunk when we have gone over.  It’s so sad to see people use their agency for something that will hurt them and tear them down in the end.   We are working with him, and it’s good to see him working toward church again.   Other than that not much is happening out here.

It sounds like everything is going good at home.  We had exchanges this week out in Alamo again, and I found a Navajo dude who is going to make me a turquoise CTR ring for 25 bucks.  I hope that was ok that I am using some money to buy that.  I couldn’t turn it down.  I am happy the Pack won, and I hope they win this week!  GO PACK GOOOO!  I got the calendar, so thanks for that.  I am supporting them on my wall!  I hope Tyler’s back gets back into shape, and he will be able to ball hard.  Give Grandma a hug for me and tell her I miss here!  Thanks for everything!  Life is great out here, and I hope you have a great week.  I love you guys tons!

Love,

-Elder Smith
