Buenos Dias Familia!

I am just chilling in the MTC Laundry area waiting for my wash to get done and I thought I would give you an update about my life here.  I hope you guys are doing great, I miss you guys tons and I think about you during the day.  I hope the bone eater is still doing the scruffle and still pawing at the pantry door for a bone or a treat.  Man I miss that little guy. He has so much joy inside of him and I miss not having a best friend to always keep me company.  But give him a scratch for me.  This week went by in a blur.  It’s crazy how things sped up so quickly and I am on my third week almost, it’s nuts.  This week was way good and hard as usual.  You always know that it’s hard work but until you’re out here scratching at everything you know to teach an investigator you realize that how hard it is.  Our district is still plugging away at Spanish.  I think I am the person who doesn't know any Spanish and I have no clue how I am going to learn it and I am hoping I'll be able to speak it sometime.  I can’t roll my R's nor speak the words.  I think people half the time think I am speaking my own language in the corner.  My companion is weird and sings hymns when you’re supposed to be studying.  I have turned to the other companions in my District and just laughed because he doesn't work and I am over there trying my hardest to make the lesson go somewhat well.  Elder Hurren chimed in once when I turned to him and asked Elder Lee, my companion, if he was just going to sing to our investigator and I just had to laugh.  I don't think he heard that because he was too caught up in the moment of singing that he tuned out everyone.  He is a weird duck.  In our investigator lesson I did all the talking because whenever I turn the time over to him he sits there forever thinking about what to say and then he quietly says something.  I just used him as a dictionary and when I didn't know how to say a word I would turn to him and say look up how to say this.  I said sorry after words but I was in the zone and just want keep plugging away.  One of our personal study times he just sat there playing with his CTR ring and spinning it over and over again.  I was ticked and mad because I was working my butt off and he was playing with his ring and singing hymns.  I told him after words that are lessons our sucking sometimes because this is a two man team.  I told him that it says in the scriptures that you have to first put forth effort before the Lord will help you.  I then told him we are a companionship and one person can’t just do it.  He gave me the silent treatment and the other Elders were there backing me up because he is the kid that doesn't work.  But we will see how this week goes.  I told him he can take our other investigator and do the lesson.  I hope it doesn't go down the pot.  I got to meet my Mission President this week and I love him and his wife.  He is a spiritual giant.  He walked into the room and you could just feel it.  I met Elder Folsom and he is such a cool guy.  He has the Montana accent going and I loved it.  He is a big dude.  In fact I got to see him at breakfast today and talked with him for a moment.  But my Mission Present is awesome and I can’t wait to serve him and the Lord.  He is pretty small but delivers when it comes to a message.  He is going to be an excellent mission president.  His wife reminds me of you mom.  She is sweet and loving just how a mom should be.  She told us she was excited to be our mission mom and can't wait to pick us up from the airport.  They are going to be great and I can’t wait for New Mexico and the red sand that stains your shirts, that’s what people say happens.  Also whenever we tell other people who have been to New Mexico they always bring up the food and that’s it.  It’s going to be so swwwweeeet!!! Ahhhh!!  I was also at the Worldwide Leadership thing.  I thought it was good too.  I didn’t really get to see any of the speakers because I was behind a screen but I thought the message they shared was great.  This week at the MTC has been crazy because all the mission presidents are here and they closed off the main building that has the food area so we have been eating like crap this week.  I ate cereal and BYU ice cream mostly.  On Sunday nights they have BYU ice cream and it’s the best.  People were coming out with just one and I told the Elders in my district I was going to get 3 and I did. They were so good!!! I have come to love cereal dad.  I never thought I would like it as much as you but I do and I can still remember you saying that you'll come to love it one day and I never thought I would but I do.  I get the crappy fruit loops brand kind but they deliver so much.  I had a cold this week so I have been trying to battle that.  I think I am final getting over it.  There has been a one day flu thing going around here at the MTC and one of the other Elders in my room got it so I am hoping I don't get it.  I had to give two sick blessing this week for one of the Hermanas and for Elder Rodriguez.  It was a cool to do that and I enjoyed it.  That’s about it around here.  Nothing too major happening - just being told what to do 24/7 but it’s good and I can’t wait to get out into the field.  Mom just send me some good treats.  I would love that.  They keep me going through the week and it’s good food.  I would pay for a home cooked meal right now.  I miss your food.  But it sounds like everyone is great and I miss you guys.  Have a great week ahead of you guys.  Love you guys and miss you guys tons.  Sherman thanks for the letters, they made me laugh, and Scott too.  Miss you dudes! Have a good week and I can’t wait to hear from you guys! Love you tons and you’re in my prayers every day! I love looking at the family photo every day.  Give my friends a what’s up and I got a letter from Tessa, she is an awesome girl and I miss not hanging with her.  I wrote her another letter so hopefully that will get to her.  But miss you guys! Keep it steezy at the Smith Home for me and wherever you guys go!  Give the Beary larry poke a doted harry a scratch for me! Love you!  I’ll write next week!

With Love,

Elder Smith
