Hola Mi Familia!!!
This week wasn't super exciting
but it was a good week. We didn't teach too many people because of the
situation that I am dealing with but we did find someone awesome. Two
weeks ago we were looking through the area book. I was looking at one
book, and my companion was looking through the other one. There were so
many people from 2010 that were in this book that I was looking at. I was
like “how in the heck am I going to pick out one of these persons.” I
said a little prayer to be directed to someone. I keep on realizing that
there is this one guy named Jesus Luna who keeps showing up in all the
records. I felt like we should visit him. My companion saw his
teaching record in the book he was looking at. I was like “we need to go
see this guy.” His teaching record didn't look promising but I felt like
we should visit him. This week we rolled up to his house. His house
didn't seem finished and looked small. He had cars parked out in the
front, and I was excited to meet him. We hoped out of the car and walked
on the rocks up to the door. We knocked and no one answered. We
knocked again and a little boy came to the door. We asked if he was home
and he was like “one second” and closed the door again. The door opened
after a couple of minutes and this older man came outside. He was Jesus
Luna, the guy we were looking for. We started talking to him and he said “yes”
he had heard the missionaries before. I noticed on his arm that he had a
hospital bracelet on. I was wondering why he had it on and I knew
something was up. For some reason I reached into by pocket, and it was
the pocket that I had my vial in. He brought up that he has cancer and my
immediately thought that we should give him a blessing. My companion
thought the same thing but he beat me to asking him if we could give him
one. He said “yes but come back Thursday.” We said ok and asked if
we could leave him with a prayer. He said sure and directed us into his
garage through the house. He fixes couches and sofas in his garage so his
garage is nuts. We said a prayer and left. We came back Thursday,
and I had to anoint his head and give him that blessing in Spanish. That
was an adventure and I got so nervous doing it. I was practicing it all
day and had it down, but when it came time to do it my mind went completely
blank. My companion had to help me out with it. We talked with him
and told him we would come back this week to see how the surgery went. We
asked him to join us at church but he said he was busy preparing for surgery on
Monday, and he didn't want to promise something he couldn't keep. I am
excited to go back this week. This man is so awesome, and I hope he sees
that a priesthood blessing helped him and he has a change of heart and sees the
gospel is true. I am so happy I was directed to see him, and I knew the
spirit directed us to go see him because he needed us and God knew it. We
are going to invite him to be baptized this week so hopefully he accepts.
That was my highlight of this week. Also this week we had dinner at this
lady's house who lives in the complete countryside. It was so far out
from any nearby city. It was an awesome adventure, and the bridge to get
to her house was super ghetto. She cooked an amazing dish of beans, rice,
meat, and a tortilla. It was awesome. We got cornbread too, and
that stuff is the bomb. It was definitely worth the drive. Also
being out here in Texas tortillas make a meal ten times better. You throw
the beans, rice, meat, and chilies on it and it is a masterpiece. I love chilies.
Not much other than that happen this week. One of are investigators named
Margarita came to church for the first time, and that was a miracle. We
had to show up to her house, and it is way out of our way, to make sure she was
up and going. We ended up missing ward council because of that. We
didn't think she was going to show up and then after the sacrament she stumbled
in and it was awesome. We are going to get her a baptism date also.
But ya that's what is happening with me.
Thanks for the package this
week, it brightened my mood so much. I loved it so much and thanks for
everything you guys do for me. The pants look sweet, so thanks for
those. That's good Daney gave a good talk. I miss that kid.
That’s good Tyler gave a good talk, I knew he would. That’s stupid about
all the football drama and it seems like the Smiths can't stay out of it.
Mom what you did made me pee my pants. I would have laughed so hard if
you came home and told me that. You kill me. Holley is definitely
losing it if when a kid is being baptized he has no clue what is
happening. I wish I was there when he yelled, "What the hell is that?"
Hahahah, that killed me. Do you happen to know Dane’s, Donald’s, and
Jake's missionary email? It sounds like everything else is good at
home. Tyler you better keep the house in one piece. Scott and Wendy,
I am jealous you’re going to Hawaii, and also Sean and Andrea I wish I could go
to Newport right now. It's been really hot down here but you get used to
it. I kind of like the heat. Dad those mountains you saw on the
plane were maybe the El Paso Mountains. El Paso is kind of surrounded by
mountains like Holladay, and one of the mountains has a giant Christ on top of
it. They call it Mount Cristo. It's a cool sight. But ya
hopefully this week is good and we work hard. Give my friends a what’s up
from me and tell them I miss them tons! Keep it real this week in all the
areas that you’re going. I miss you guys, and you are in my
prayers! Love you guys tons!
With Love,
-Elder Smith
