Hola!!!
Hey everyone, its sounds like everything is in one piece at
home. That’s good everyone gave a good farewell talk. That's sweet
what Aaron talked about. I am jealous that you’re going to Zion for a
couple of days. I wish I was going on that but I am on my own adventure
out in the desert. This week was a pretty good week. I feel like it
was the hardest week we have worked in a while.
So I told you I was going on exchanges on Monday with one of
the Zone Leaders. That was a really good experience. He came to our
area, and my companion went to the other area. I didn't think I could
handle it, but I did it. On exchanges I got us a dinner appointment with
a less-active member, and it was awesome. We have a monthly dinner eating
calendar, and when she asked if she could have us over, I was like this is more
important and we can cancel our other one. Her son was
awesome. He lives in San Fran and just graduated from Stanford Law so he
was down here visiting his mom. He was a really cool dude. It was
very fun to talk with him. After that we went to a family home evening,
which then turned into a lesson with a non-member, which was way sweet.
The mom’s sister was in town, and we had no idea. When we showed up she wanted us to teach her
the restoration. That was a cool experience. The next day we taught
some people. It was sweet. We stopped by Marigeta’s, and she is a
head case. She is a 60 year old women, who kind of dates a 30 year old on
and off. She told us he left her but then just a couple of days ago she
said he was back. She told us he was there to help her study "The
Bible." When I heard that I was like ya, right, he is there just for
a place to live and to get with someone. She promised yesterday before
church when we stopped by that she would come to church. Nope, that
didn't happen. She still has a baptism date for September 17. She
needs to come one more time and stop drinking beer. Hopefully she pulls it out.
Also on exchanges we found 2 new people. That was awesome. We
knocked on this one guy’s door, and he was a whack job. We asked him if
we could come back, and he was like why? I told him our message is very
important. I kept pushing him for us to come back and he finally was like,
you are just going to share something right? We said yes and proceeded to
hand him a pamphlet. We asked if he would read it and he was like “nope”.
So we told him we couldn’t come back if he was not going to put forth an effort
and pretty much just walked away. But we switched back on Tuesday.
On Wednesday we had a leadership training up in Las
Cruces. So I had to drive up there with another guy because my companion
had to go up there earlier. I had to attend a meeting with President
Miller and all the trainers and trainees. I got to see Elder Hurren and
Elder Folsom. That made my week 10 times better. I love them.
We talked for a while and it was awesome. They are doing good. They
are about 30 minutes outside of El Paso and farther down south. After the
training President Miller pulled my companion aside and it turns out he talked
to him about what was happening. He wrote me later and told me he talked
to him and he said he would work harder. This week I have noticed a
change in him. We work more and plan sometimes. It's not a 100
percent but it’s better. I was happy he talked to him.
Also this week a member referred us to this one lady.
We went on Saturday to see her. She is going through a really hard
divorce and everything. She told us that she feels like God is putting
her in this and that we were sent to help her out of it. It turns out we
are going to be teaching the whole family. All of them are super interested
in football and stuff. It was a really good lesson, and she told us we
helped her a lot. We invited her to church the next day and she said she
would come. She was there yesterday and it was awesome. She brought
her daughter and it was epic. The whole time my companion and I were
feeling like she wasn't having a good time. I pretty much spent my church
time praying the whole time. We went up to her after words and we were
trying to think of ways to make it better for her and everything. She
told us she loved it and wants to come back. She also told us to come
over and teach her whole family, which has 5 kids. We are hoping we
baptize the whole family. She is a way cool investigator, and I love the
family. Jesus is nowhere to be found. He hasn't been at his house
for 2 weeks. We are hoping everything is ok. Hopefully he will be
back this week.
But ya, that was my week for you. We found 8 new
investigators which was epic. Hard work pays off. Transfers are
next week, and my companion goes home in October, so I should get a new one
then. It sounds like everything is good a home. Just know I love
you guys tons and miss you more than anything, especially my friends! I
can't believe that group of friends is all shaken up. That kind of makes
me sad, we have all been together since junior high. But soon the group
will be together again. Just now I love you and give Beary a rub for
me and hopefully he is better! Love you tons.
Con mucho amor,
-Elder Smith
