February 17, 2015

Hey Family!

It’s really mind blowing to me that I am sitting down at a computer again typing out another email…time is flying out here, and it is really scaring me, but that is all good.  I am doing good, and I am hanging in there.  I want to quickly write about you coming down here to pick me up before I forget and not have the chance to type it out.  I really don’t care how it goes down.  If you want to pick me up, that is good with me.  Or I can fly home, and then we can come back.  It’s good either way for me.  I wouldn’t care either way if we did a little trip down here or came back in the summer and had a trip down here.  I am happy either way, and it would float my boat each way!  Just make the decision, and I will be happy.  I can’t believe we’re at this point.  I didn’t see that coming, and it’s freaking me out to say the least.  I don’t have much time, but I know that it’s still some time.  Just let me know how you want to do it.  I am good either way.

We worked hard this week with all the things we had going on.  I felt like we were dealing with a lot of things with the missionaries and the Zone.  We managed to have a really great week, and that was good.  This area is pretty sweet, and I love it out here, just as much as Canutillo, Chappy, or Rio Grande.  They all have been great areas and have taught me a lot.  It is great to see the work progress and see those people wanting to change and come back to the fold of Jesus Christ.  I love this work, and it’s an eternal work.

We found a new family this week that is super awesome.  Their name is the Familia Miranda.  We found them through a member.  We went to a member’s house a week back or so and talked with them, and they told us they had this neighbor that probably would be interested.  They pointed out the house, and we planned to knock it someday.   We were having a rough day, I think it was Saturday, and we had really nothing going for us.  We both thought of this family, and we went and talked to the member one last time and doubled checked to see if it was that house.  We went and knocked, and this boy answered.  We gave him the usual on how we were missionaries and such.  He went and grabbed his dad, and he didn’t seem too happy to see us, but we judged him wrong.  Right away he invited us in, and we taught him.  He had some really good questions for us.   We answered them and asked him if we could come back, and he said, “Of course.”  We are going back Wednesday I think to teach him and his family again.  It was cool to see the light of Christ and the spirit enter into him and see the change that took place in just 30 minutes.  It is crazy to see what the gospel can do.

We were able to see the Gomez Family this week.  We are mostly just teaching the daughter now.  The dad isn’t interested.  He just goes into the back room of this trailer that is falling apart and smokes his life away.  Margarita, the daughter, is awesome.  She loves to learn, and she has changed for the better.  It is awesome to see that.  She loves learning and finding out the truth.  We were able to set a baptismal date for the 21st of March.  We are praying really hard for her that she will make it and progress even more.  It’s been fun to teach her and see her progressing.

Noe and Patricia didn’t make it to church this week, and that was a bummer.  Their date dropped, and we were sad because they are just having this problem with coming to church.  We have been trying, but nothing has been going.  We had a great lesson with them yesterday with a member, and they accepted to come and have a church tour on Friday with us, and that is awesome.   Hopefully that will help them get to church and start coming regularly.  They are awesome, and they just need to come to church.

I think something that was pretty funny that happened this week was with a less active family we saw.  The dad is a member, but the mom and the 2 kids aren’t.  I don’t know if I told you about the time we went over and we saw him pound a can of those sundae cherries and drink the juice.  I was trying so hard not to laugh nor throw up.  Just to get straight to the point - he is a lazy person and doesn’t want to do anything.  The wife is stubborn and doesn’t want to change her ways, but the kids are cool.  We show up on Sunday to teach them, and the dad isn’t even there.  We just started teaching her, and mid-way the door comes busting open and he came in and sat down.  He was like, “Long day in Juarez, super tried!”  We were like, “Can you get your book of Mormon? “ He looked at his wife and said in Spanish, “Go get me my pills, and I can’t because I am tried.”  The whole lesson he was just passed out on the couch sleeping and snoring.  He woke up at one point yelled, “Juaaan,” and then told us he would be right back.  He went outside and brought in his drunk friend, and the friend listened while he went back to sleeping and snoring.  I was trying so hard not to laugh.  It was just a classy missionary lesson.  You got to love less active people.

That’s my week for you in a nutshell.  I love it out here and serving the Lord.  I picked up the Book of Mormon again, and I have been reading that.  I love that book with all my heart.  I have noticed it makes me a lot happier when I read it every morning.  There is a power behind it.  This church is true, and I know that with my whole soul.

I love you guys so much, and it sounds like you’re doing great!  Keep plugging along with everything, and the Lord will be there right by your side to help you out.  I will be praying for Scott like usual and you guys.  I miss you guys tons.  Also do I have to enroll yet at a school for college?  I don’t know how I am going to pay for that, but I will figure it out.   I hope you guys have a great week, and I miss you guys tons!  Keep it steezy for me!

Love,
