Hey Family!
It’s crazy to me how fast them time is going right now. It’s not slowing down, and that is just weird
to me. We worked hard this week, and it was awesome to see the
success we had from it. We have been trying to do the very best we
can, and at times it’s super hard, but I’ve been enjoying it. I
think I am battling a cold right now. Last night I went to bed with
a sore throat, and I thought it would go away during the night. But I am still battling it, but it’s all
good. We had Elder Holland come to the mission on Sunday, and that
was awesome. Our meeting with him was at 7:00 in the morning, so it
was early but awesome. I will talk more about that
later. We also have been able to set a lot of baptism dates lately,
and that is awesome. The Book of Mormon is a miracle book to say the
least. I love it out here, and I love being a missionary.
I think the most promising investigator we have right now is Joey
Gomez. He is brothers to a recent convert, Adrian
Gomez. I think I have written about them before, but we are working
a lot with Joey right now, and he is solid. He has a date for the 14th of March, and we are excited
for that. When we asked him to be baptized he told us what he had to
do to prepare and that he would do it. He loves church as well, and
that is awesome. He is really progressing and has the sincere desire
to change for the better. We have taught him twice so far, and it’s
been awesome to see the change that has taken place over those past
visits. I love him a lot, and I am happy we are working with someone
who really wants to change.
We also have a date with Margarita. I don’t know if I
wrote that in my last email, but she has a date for March 21st. We haven’t been able
to see her lately so that is a bummer, but we are working with her. We are excited for her because she has a lot
of potential, and she is willing to progress. I think I told you
before that the father is crazy, and he doesn’t have the best attitude towards God
because he is a drunk. So we are working
with that and trying our best to change his ways. He seems pretty
set, but we are trying with him.
We had a church tour with Noe this week, and that was an awesome
experience. He followed us over to the church in his awesome jeep,
and we walked him through the building. He
loved it. At the end he just wanted to sit there in the chapel for a
while. He didn’t want to leave from that building, and he felt the
spirit there. He knew it was a church of God, and he knew that there
was something special there. We were able to set a baptism date with
him right there in the church, and that was awesome. His wife
couldn’t come because she was really tired from work and she was
sleeping. We are excited for them, and they are showing signs of
progression. We just have to get them to
church on Sunday.
We are still dealing with the crazy less active family with the
dad that falls asleep every lesson. We went over Sunday, and he was
outside smoking away when we got there. He invited us in and right
away he fell asleep and was snoring away. It’s such a weird family
to say the least, and he is probably one of the laziest men I have seen on my
mission. I don’t know how anyone could just become like
that. It is sad to see that to say the least. We also had a
showdown with a less active’s wife this week. We went over to Hno
Perez house this week for dinner. He is older, married to a
non-member, and he is a High Priest. We got done having some awesome
mole, and we sat down to share a message with him. His wife just ripped into us about our church
and telling us that it wasn’t true. We told her she could know it’s
true through the Book of Mormon, and she didn’t want that. Hno Perez
was tearing into her as well. Somehow priesthood got through in
there, and Hno Pezez just went ham on her and told her how the church is of God
and the true church. She is nuts to say the least, and I don’t know
how he lives with her. I feel super bad for him because he is
awesome, but he just has the nut job wife. At some points of the
discussion I was trying to hold back from laughing because he was getting so
into it and throwing his body into it when he was fighting back. It was gnarly. So
we learned our lesson. When we go over there don’t teach the wife,
only him.
Elder Holland came this week, and that was awesome. It
was crazy to see him in person and to shake his hand. When he
entered the room there was a different spirit there, and you could feel and see
the power of God in him. He talked a lot about going home and how so
many missionaries go less active. At one point he said, yelling, “If
I am going to send the shepherds to find the sheep, then for heaven’s sake we
cannot lose the shepherds!” He told us how much he hates it when
missionaries just go back to their old selves and take a u turn on their
progression. It was gnarly to say the least and a really good
meeting about the Book of Mormon and how we need to be converted to
it. It was by far the best speech I have heard in a while.
That is my week in a nutshell for you. We are working hard and doing our best to
bring people salvation. It’s weird that the end of the mission is in
sight, and I am not ready for it. I love my mission, and I don’t
want to let go of it. It has been a blessing to me, and I love
it. I hope you have a great week this week. Just know you’re in my prayers, like
usual! Keep working hard in everything you’re doing, and I sure do
love you!
Love,
-Elder Smith
