Hey Guys!
This week was a pretty good week...just the usual I
guess. I am really pushing myself to end the transfer well.
Transfers are next week so you'll be hearing from me Monday instead of
Tuesday. I can't believe another transfer has come and gone. It’s
crazy to me, and it’s crazy that you get to hear from me Sunday. It seems
like it was just Christmas for me and I was talking to you, and now it’s
May. Missions go by pretty fast, but it’s been such a great adventure and
an experience. I am trying hard to work hard, and hopefully it’s paying
off on in Chaparral. It’s gotten into the 90s this week so I am just
getting my tan on out there. I am excited to hear and talk to you on
Sunday...that's going to be fun.
My week was a pretty normal week. We having been
walking around lately contacting people, and that has brought a lot of
success. We usually find one person a day who invites us back and likes
our message. This Sunday we found a pretty sweet guy at 8 o'clock at
night. His name is David. We were having a really rough day on
Sunday. Nothing was going for us, it was hot, and no one was out.
We tried everyone we possibly could. I was getting frustrated and just
upset. We weren't teaching anyone, and it was bad. We didn't want
to have a day were we didn't have a lesson. I was kind of praying in my
heart for something to happen. We decided to walk around at 8 and see
what happened. We were walking and ran into this guy who didn't really
care to listen. We kept on walking just a couple more steps, and we saw
two guys just kicking back on their porch. This one guy, who turned out
to be David, had his shirt off, and it was just classy. We walked up and
started talking with them. The other guy heard us out and got up and went
inside. But David just sat there asking
and listening. He told us that he has been to our churches in Mexico and
loves them. He told us when the sacrament was being passed around he
would down like 4 water cups. It was pretty fun. We got to teach
him right there, and he invited us back Wednesday. He was a miracle and a
blessing. He is going to be fun to teach. Hector and Denise are
doing pretty good. We never were able to catch up with them this
week. We went over Sunday, and Hector came home from work and crashed so
we couldn't teach them. Our less actives are doing pretty good. The
former branch presidente broke his promise and didn't come this Sunday.
That made me upset. We went by with an old bishop that is in our ward,
and he wasn't in the best of moods. He was being negative and just won’t
let the things of the past go. I am hoping he comes this week. It’s
crazy what Satan can do and how the adversary is such a part of our life.
He doesn't want people to go back and return - he just wants them to be stuck
in their old ways. He is terrible. We did find 4 less actives this
week who don't have records at all. One we found just walking, and we saw
this really short guy out in the street. We were like is that a
kid? We kept on walking closer and closer. We were pretty confident
that it was a kid. He finally said something and it was a man by his
voice. We went up to him and started talking with him and, sure enough,
he knew we were missionaries. He told us
he was a member. We also found another who doesn't want to ever come
back, so we are hoping his heart softens. We also have a guy named Marcos
who is progressing pretty nicely. We taught him this week at a member’s
home, and that went well. He enjoyed it and the spirit was strong.
He was going to come to church but he didn't, so that was a bummer. But
we are pretty sure he will get baptized. That was my week for ya.
It was a good week.
So for calling...I am pretty sure I will call you around
5. I hope that works. I will probably give you a call beforehand
letting you know that I am going to call. I am excited to see your
smiling faces. Thanks for everything you do for me.
It sounds like everything is in
one piece at home. That is awesome Scotty is done with school. I
can't wait to see the baby as well - that's going to be rad. Thanks for
sending the package. I will be looking for it. When you send another
could you send me some lyrics to songs? Like stop this train, for reasons
unknown, born and raised, just some kind of lyrics. I like reading them
here and there. Thanks for everything you do for me. I love you
guys tons, and you’re always in my prayers. I will see you Sunday!
Go Giants!
Con Amor,
-Elder Smith
